Our goal is to improve the environment in our community by working with our neighbors to create a clean and safe place to live.
Environmental Topics At High Crest Lake
West Milford requires that Septic Systems be pumped every 3 years. A properly maintained septic system protects our lake and all of the surrounding bodies of water. Lake properties are extremely sensitive because the lots are close together and there is a very high water table. Any property within 300 feet of a lake in West Milford, must seek special attention/approvals.
There are some simple things that we can do here at High Crest Lake to keep our water clean.
- Recycle Used Items
- Minimize Chemical Use – especially Phosphorus
- Reduce Water use
- Participate in community clean-up efforts
- Pickup after Fido
- Keep the storm drains clean
- If you see or smell something, say something
Wildlife – Bears are active in the high crest neighborhood
If you care, do not feed the bear. Keep the wild in Wildlife! It is the law. Also the feeding of migratory resident waterfowl is detrimental and may harm the water quality and cause a public health nuisance.
While packaging plays a key role in keeping products safe and transportable, it too often is discarded when it could be used again. Recycling protects resources from depletion, allows communities to manage the amount of trash they have to handle, and protects the environment by saving water and greenhouse gases.
